As I mentioned before, my personal trainer is Filer Fitness. Every Sunday, Jaime hosts a community call. These have become my Sunday habit. It resets my thinking for the week and helps to put my inner monolog on mute. (That witch can be fucking loud.)
Today, the call was on comparison and the whats, whys, and how to turn the comparison into something useful to your journey.
Got a killer Shakepeare quote out of it:
There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so
Hamlet (Act 2, Scene 2)
Let me just say that of all the things I am getting from my relationship with Filer Fitness, the change to my mindset, thoughts, and behavior is worth every fucking penny.
At the end of the call this morning: the exercise was to make the only comparison that really matters. Compare you to you. Where were you 1 year ago? Where are you today?
One year ago
- Cancer scare – multiple imaging appointments/biopsy
- Unhappy relationship – and ignoring the little things
- Frustrated at work – and not doing anything to realize the dream.
- Not happy with my body – and not doing a thing to change that viewpoint
Today
- 6+ months postop from double mastectomy, cancer risk MUCH lower
- Working on the relationship, still uncertain but at least not stagnant
- Love my day job (especially when I get to help my surgeon). Taking action to be a published author, speaker, advocate.
- Recognizing all that my body does for me and doing the things that bring me joy in this body.
I am different person than I was in October 2025. I done settling. Life is too frigging short to stay stuck and unhappy. I can not wait to see where I will be this time next year.
