After not sleeping well or long enough, I decided that if I’m not going to call out, for my own safety, I need to ride my bike. It was a 6 mile ride to work, and I got there early.
Riding was the right choice because the adrenaline, cool air, and morning sun gave me enough energy to sustain me until I could grab some caffeine.
Getting there early allowed me to touch base with my coworkers and get the paperwork that I’m returning signed and try to remember the details of what we do day to day.
It was an okay day given how tired I was. My patients were understanding when I explained. My leads were flexible with my bandwidth and allowed me to play to my strengths.
Some things that surprised me.
- How much has stayed the same, like I never left, and I still felt like I knew nothing.
- When I told my supervisor that I was looking outside our department for opportunities, his response was that I support you 100% whether you stay or go.
- That people genuinely missed me. Maybe they are friends, after all.
- How much time I was without my earbuds in today.
