I am limiting my social media consumption for the next few weeks. It’s become a tradition of mine as a reset before starting the New Year.
I have been participating in the Habit Challenge organized by Team Tactic, and it has been enlightening. I will share my biggest takeaway below. I started off really well with reporting my progress. Eventually, though, posting daily became a dreaded chore, so I’ve been tracking offline, where all the biggest growth and changes happen.
I designed my personal habit for the challenge. I decided to re-read the Book of Mormon. It has been an eye-opening experience. I timed my reading so that I am reading the time of Christ’s birth and ministry among the people today. It is my favorite gift to myself this year.
My reading has rekindled my faith in the gospel and truth. I see opportunities for deepening my faith and personal conviction. I am going to
- Continue daily reading. Not at the same pace as I am right now, but I will continue to read and study scripture. –Not commentary.
- Personal worship. I will be sure to take the time each week to worship. In church, the temple, or some other means… doesn’t matter. I just want to take the time to be in the quiet and experience peace that comes from only one source.
- Serve. Not just my designated assignment, but also in my communities and shared spaces. As I move forward in the ways that I feel inspired and called to, I will take the counsel of Jacob seriously: “O be wise, what can I say more?”
Today, our family is all together. Our son is here. We made pancakes for breakfast. We opened our gifts. We are wearing our Christmas PJs. Our son, who worked last night, is sleeping. Shadow and Sweetpea are enjoying having us all at home. They get all the treats and cuddles they want. On the TV are my favorite versions of A Christmas Carol and other holiday shows. The roast is in the Crockpot with canned tomatoes, a carrot, onion, celery, garlic, and seasonings. I’m going to roast other veggies for the side. For Christmas dessert, we have treats from friends, popcorn, and perhaps a game or building our Lego crafts.
I return to work tomorrow, but today my heart is full.
