As July goes on and I see my feed with massively scary stories and a few people try to show and share their pride in their existence, I wonder what I can add to the cacophony that would be worthwhile and meaningful.
As a disabled human being who’s always aware of what my limits are and always aware of the stares and whispers. What I see in the world is that it wasn’t made for me.
I adapt to the world that I inhabit, not the other way around. In nature, that means taking the longer route sometimes, it means going slow and purposeful to avoid injury. In civilization, it means learning to communicate and adapt to the things that were made for the majority of bodies and not specifically for me.
What I see is my global community of disabled persons being stronger than anyone else ever realizes. We do things that other people take for granted in ways they would never dream of. And, not only does it work for us but it also contributes to the accessibility and equality of every other community we exist in.
