What fears have you overcome and how?
That list is long and distinguished. I overcome fear every single day. I do it by doing whatever that thing that scares me anyway.
Years ago I read a post on a blog about an adoptive mom watching their child overcome fear by taking their first steps. The title of the post was Do it afraid.
The fact is we can always let fear guide us into inaction or stagnation. We can always find reasons not to do something. So, I’ve learned to embrace the suck of fear and just do the thing that scares me anyway.
Over the last 10 years that included getting my driver’s license… moving across the country and then back again… going back to school to get my degree… finding my career where I look forward to working… supporting my son through his incarceration… dealing with the aftermath of our last foster placement… creating this website and sharing my voice here… advocating for the things I need to do my best at work… taking a leadership role when opportunities present themselves… and so many other every day life things.
