I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 6 months old. My first concrete memories are being in ‘school’ doing all my therapies.
I distinctly remember speech therapy, physical therapies, occupational therapies, and even psychological therapies all throughout my youth. From each type, I learned a lot of things.
The things that I learned through all of my different sessions stuck with me. They are some of the most life altering lessons I have ever had.
The gift of language and the love of languages can not be understated for me. It’s the reason this page exists. And, that started with speech therapy.
Physical and occupational therapies are part of my everyday life. Without them, my functionality, mobility, and my sense of being would be completely different.
Psych therapy has been essential in coping with the emotional and mental toll of being an other. I’ve been bullied and suffered all kinds of abuse and attacks even by those who were supposed to be my allies and friends. Without the tools I learned in psycho therapy, I would’ve given up on life or succumbed to the thoughts that hijacked my life’s purpose for way too long.
