Meet our current pack. Sweetpea is the cat. She’s our mouser and cuddle hog. She loves to climb to the top of the entertainment shelf and survey her kingdom. She enjoys a drink from the tub faucet. Each night, she nestles herself under my husband’s arms while he falls asleep. Each morning, she climbs on my chest and demands attention before I do anything else. As I leave for work each day… she leaves with me to prowl our neighborhood for critters and pests that threaten to invade our home.
Abe is the Lab/Shepherd mix with the white chest. He’s 14/15 years old. As a young dog, he would climb the trees in our backyard and chase squirrels. As an old man, he enjoys laying in the sun and getting lots of pets and treats.
Shadow is our younger Lab/Shepherd mix. I originally named her Merri, but she was a constant companion to my husband and kids, so they gave her a new name. I must admit that it fits her well. She loves to run and to speak. She is learning to be gentle when she takes her treats. She loves belly rubs and following us whenever our feet hit the floor. This summer, she will be my companion on as many trails that I can find.
Our pets are our kids. From the beginning of our marriage, we have had dogs and cats. They filled the void since we didn’t have biological kids. Even when we had kids in our home… the pets remained, they made great companions for the kids and made the goodbyes a little easier because they always know when we need them.
