Black History Month

Another hero from my childhood is the teachers and administrators of my elementary school. These men and women almost all of them were black instilled in me a sense of pride.

My second grade teacher made sure that I was included and involved in a mainstream classroom.

My third grade teacher helped me love reading and literature.

My therapists made it so I could do most everything that the other kids my age were doing.

My fourth and fifth grade teachers encouraged my participation in the special games (precursor to the special olympics). I medaled in every event that I participated in.

The principal and vice principal learned who I was and made sure that I had everything I needed to succeed.

The overarching message I got from all of these people is that I matter. And, even more important: when one of us succeeds, we all do.
