What advice would you give your younger self?
First thing I’d tell any younger version of myself is: “Do it afraid.” If I wasn’t crippled by fear for a good portion of my young adulthood, I would have accomplished the things I’m doing now so much earlier.
Second thing I’d tell any younger version of myself is: “Stop believing them.” Others opinions of who I am, and what I’m capable of screamed in my subconscience for so long. Sometimes, it fueled my fear and kept me from doing what I wanted to do. Sometimes, it brought me to the depths of despair and dreaming of the rest that only death brings.
I do things that scare me now. Doing things afraid and despite the fear have led to so many good things in my life. Over the last several years, I’ve stepped into my worth. The thoughts and opinions of others do not impact me as they once did. What other people think of me is none of my business (I read that in a book once), and that whole concept has helped me let go and heal. Now, I know who I am, and the people around me can take me or leave me… because I’m not going to change for anyone but me.
