How have you changed in the last 5 years?
My life has changed quite a bit in the last 5 years. Hell, even in the last 2 years, our life has changed a bit.
So, in 2020, I graduated from college with my Bachelors degree in Health Care Administration. We were working on being relicensed for foster care. And, of course, the pandemic.
In 2021, I was a full-time mom. We had 6/7 year old boys in our home. It was a very busy time.
In 2022, we had teenagers in our home. I got my current employment.
In 2023, we went through hell with false charges and fighting the legal battle. We were luckily enough to keep my employment. However, my husband lost his job and took months to find new employment.
In 2024, we were exonerated from those false charges. I got a new boss at work and lots of changes at work.
This month, I’m starting my goal of the year and blog/journal every day of 2025.
So, that was a quick rundown, but let me do a couple of bullet points.
- I’m independent. I got married young, and for a long time, my life revolved around my husband. I never thought about what I needed… it was always: what we needed. Deciding to go to school, start my career, get my license/my own car, create this website, do the things to get my mental and overall health in better shape… has helped me be separate from him. That has meant I can show up for him/us so much better.
- I know I am capable. I have spent far too much of my life believing the lie that there’s something wrong with me. I also used to give in to the “I can’t do this” narrative, and now, that’s just not the case.
- I know I can speak/write about my experiences. This is a piggyback from #2. I believed my experiences weren’t worth sharing. I’m learning that my experiences are important and needed. My plan is to practice my writing and develop my voice, and write my book.
- I love to move my body. I forgot for a long time how important it is to move and exercise. I make it a priority to get my movement in. I love to hike and be in nature. I also love my bike, and I have a stationary bike at home. I’m also starting to strength train.
