5 Ws — Gratitude
Who am I most grateful for?
This could be a really long list, so I’m going to confine my response to the most important person in my life.
I am most grateful for my husband. For almost 30 years, we have been partners/companions in every aspect of our life together. When my life falls apart, he helps me rebuild. Whenever I need to hear it, he tells me all the ways he loves me. He is the one who believes in me even when I don’t believe in myself.
What am I most grateful for?
The thing I’m most grateful for is my driver’s license. It is the key to my indepence and the ability to hold down employment in this part of the country.
What place (where) am I most grateful for?
I am most grateful for my childhood home. I grew up in Queens, NY. A place where I quite got to experience the world through my fellow NYers. Things I learned growing up in such a diverse community have influenced every part of my life.
What time (when) of my life am I most grateful for?
I am most grateful for the now part of my life. I have an incredible quality of life. Our son is no longer incarcerated and committed to building our relationship. We are both employed and not in such financial distress. My inner demons of depression and self sabotage have quieted. My inner voice is not self-deprecating.
Why?
Gratitude is so important. Naming these 5 things has grounded me after a day at work where almost nothing got accomplished.
