My faith has been part of my identity since I was young. I took my first unassisted steps into the arms of missionaries. Sundays in high school were spent in church. That was the day that I would fortify myself to get through the week at school, with the stressors at home, and through the people at church, my world was expanded.
As I have grown and my belief system has evolved, my Sabbath habits have changed. Church attendance is still important to me, but the reasons behind it are vastly different.
My relationship with God and my Savior are very personal; church attendance does not change or particularly enhance that relationship. However, church does give me the space to connect. The atmosphere in church is conducive to meditation, study, prayer, and commardarie. These things are essential to finding peace in this world.
What will my Sabbath observance look like in 2025. For starters, it is going to start on Friday after my shift at work.
I will be making Friday nights the day to prepare for the weekend by creating space to budget/meal plan/connect with my husband (date night).
Saturdays will be the day to get the errands/chores/prep for Sunday done. It will also be the day that I can write, read, cook, and ready myself for a truly restful day.
On Sunday, I will attend church, do the chores remaining to prepare for the work week, and enjoy a day of reading and relaxing.
