What colleges have you attended?
For the sake of storytelling… I’m going to use the loose definition of the word attended.
My very first visit to a college was a weekend conference at Stonybrook on Long Island in New York.
Over the course of my high school career, I would visit NYU, Columbia, and John Jay colleges as I considered options for my further education.
When it was time for me to go to college to study… I decided on Rick’s College in Rexburg. There, I met my husband (a story for another day) but did not get my degree.
Several years later, I applied to and was accepted to Boise State University, which I enjoyed, but I found myself disillusioned and unhappy, so I opted to withdraw rather than continue paying tuition to not do well in school.
A few more years later and I found my passion for healthcare while I was a medical scribe and caregiver for several clients.
With my passion ignited, I decided it was time to return to school, but I do it differently this time. I first attended BYU Pathway Worldwide and completed their initiatory year-long program. I ended the year with a 4.0 GPA.
Completion of the Pathway program meant that I was accepted to Brigham Young Univerity-Idaho (BYU-I) for a Bachelors degree in Health Care Administration. The best part of that was that it was all online. So, I learned zoom/teams/canvas/ etc long before the pandemic.
In 2020, as the world was entering lockdown, I graduated from BYU-I with a 3.0 and started my healthcare career.
Since my Bachelors degree, I have gotten a couple of professional certifications from the College of Western Idaho (CWI) and Idaho State University (ISU). I am in the process of weighing options for my Master’s and/or other options for professional certifications.
