Roaring Springs

Vortex, the one slide I went on

Our reimbursement for the month is late by a lot. Sometimes, even as a foster parent instead of fighting for the kids in your care… you are fighting for your needs too. It took some leg work by the current case worker, but we finally got everything we were expecting.

The case worker came by on Thursday to see the kiddo and then I pulled her aside for some questions I have for her. We got school figured out. She told me the department’s view on Birth Mom’s progress and everything, plus she gave us permission to have extra outings with Birth Mom and family other than official visits.

Court for the case was on Friday morning. I let my husband sit in because I had something else scheduled. Birth mom is making progress on her family court case plan and the other criminal cases that she’s involved with are going in a good direction as well.

So, yesterday was Slide Night at Roaring Springs. We got a killer deal for going with a group so we brought our foster son’s mom and big sister. We all had a blast. Plus, my husband and I got to come home kid free because of approved overnight visits. We got to talk to birth mom pretty openly and hear her experiences and some of her story. I went on a couple of rides and that was fun. Though, the quality time with my husband, and our ‘foster’ family, and some of my cyclebar family was the best part.

This time being a foster parent, I’m better at asking initial questions so I had some inkling as to the length of this case. After this time with mom, I can confidently say that my optimism for this family is well founded. Also, our promise to our foster son of being permanent could be the best tool for the birth mom/family to make lasting changes and mom can concentrate on the hard work she has in front of her. I can honestly say that they are ours and we are theirs. And, that’s the best feeling with a case that doesn’t end with us being a forever family.
