Today was among the hardest days I’ve had with this placement yet. Kids were struggling to get the chores done… I was struggling with some things of my own (more on that later), And, it wound up with both of them in time out for quite a bit of time (mainly so I could keep myself in check). In the end, both admitted that they are homesick and struggling without the things they are used to.
I get that more than I would like. There was more than one summer that I wished I was somewhere else. But, as we don’t have the power to change the situation we need to make the best of it.
So, step one was a reward for actually getting the chores done. We walked through the dollar store and they picked out some things that they wanted to occupy their time when they ‘run out’ of things to do. Step two was a yummy dinner (that thankfully was in the crockpot all day) that they loved and declared their favorite meal. Step three was time with Bobby the Bag at ILKB. There is something about moving your body in a very visceral way when it was a hard day. Also, I had my favorite spotify playlists going throughout the day which really helped to remind me of the strength I have inside me.
I can and I will help these kids and their parents get through this time of their lives. Hopefully, at the end of the whole case we will all been blessed by being part of each other’s lives.
