Ride or Die

Last night after watching In the Heights, I had to take a moment to center myself because the conversation with Nina and her father in the movie really touched me. I was bawling for the rest of the movie. As the movie let out, I texted someone I’ve come to rely on. And, she responded.

This morning, I thanked her for responding even though she was ‘off the clock.’ I know this person from one of my gyms, and other than the typical run ins there and the very infrequent (if ever) we live in the same general area meet ups. We haven’t hung out. So, her response of:

Friends are always on the clock

shocked me. It shouldn’t have. BUT, I have a bad habit of not trusting my gut with most of my relationships, so… when I saw her call me a friend… I sat down on my bed and cried until my kids needed something.

You know who you are, I want you to know that your presence in my life is not taken for granted. One day, I hope to return the favor.
