Fast and Testimony Meeting

Each month in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we fast and contribute our fast offerings (the cost of the meals we did not eat) to the local leaders to assist families in our area that stand in need. As part of our fast, we also have a testimony meeting. Instead of assigned speakers and topics… the mic is open for anyone who wants to share their testimony of the gospel, Christ, true principles, etc.

This week was the second week that we had the kids with us in church. Somehow it was harder to get out of the door on time (at least for me). So, as we are settling into the meeting and my 7 year old sees people going up to the pulpit to share. They turn to me and says: “Are you going up there?” I have a personal goal that I say yes as much as I can to my kids because there is so much that because of different reasons I have to say no to. So, I took my turn at the pulpit for the first time in over a year.

Because I never prep exactly what I say in those settings, or any setting, I wasn’t sure what was going to come out of my mouth. The one thing I remember saying is that if you follow that first prompting (whatever it is) the Lord will bless you in unbelievable ways.

[I don’t plan what I say here folks. I do edit my writing, though.]

Can I be honest here? I never thought we would actually be parents again. I am beyond humbled that the caseworkers, and the powers that be at the department listened to the divine intervention to grant us the blessing of helping these kids and bring about the vision for our family.

I am also extremely humbled by the fact that my “gym friends” just weeks ago are the people that made sure my family and I had everything we need during the last few months. Our DnD group are some of the best humans I know. Our adventures are something I look forward.
