For a few years now, we have had family dinner with my sister and her family on Monday nights. We started off weekly when we were working on assignments/projects for school together. Life changed rather abruptly when COVID hit and that just went away. We finally resumed and decided to drop down to just once a month.
Tonight was the monthly family dinner. Last month’s meal was very strange. I was beginning a hard time of year for me… and was struggling quite a bit with a few things. (more on that another time.) — I hope you hold me accountable for all the times I say that.
This month, I didn’t quite know what to expect from it. I mean, I’m feeling much better, but we also have a new family dynamic… and I’m still not sure how the kids will react to our family traditions. Tonight was fun though. The kids even asked if we could do it again sooner. I don’t think it’ll happen but it was nice to have a ‘normal’ meal again after the stress and whatever of the last few months. I’m very grateful for our monthly meals together.
Also tonight, the kid’s GAL (guardians ad litem) came by to visit with them. We all had a good conversation then they played games. I love the GAL role in this process. They and us are the only ones 100% focused on the kids.
