It’s officially one week since the kids have been in our home. It’s been an interesting week, but here are the successes.
- We eat dinner each night as a family. Whether that means cooking a meal or getting take out. Dinner time has become a real awesome experience.
- We have had good conversations with both kids about different things.
- I have felt supported and appreciated by the birth family (all of them).
- I really appreciate the caseworker. Given all things, I think she is doing a great job keeping me in the loop.
- Our/my community has surrounded me/my family in love and support. I can’t adequately express my/our deep gratitude and appreciation for everything that they have done for me/my husband and the kids.
- Story time at the end of the day is something to look forward to. My husband is such a good narrator.
- The kids have slept through the night since night 1. (For the most part, so have I).
- It feels natural to be a family of 4, like they were always supposed to be here. — I do not think they will be here forever, but they totally have our heart, whether they like it our not — they have earned another set of parents.
In other news, we got to see a picture of our 2 year old granddaughter. She is beautiful and smiles… and looks like a miniature version of my son. Speaking of our son, he sent us a short video visit recently… and it was so good to see his face. It was his birthday this week and it just didn’t hurt as much to see his old pictures show up on my personal FB. [Note to self: I need to retell our adoption story and the aftermath of the last 7 years.]
